GREAT LAKES FARMS: Locally Grown Family Fun

Written by The Editors

Great Lakes Farms brings families, fun, and farming together. The Van de Gevel family have been growing high quality Elgin County fruit for generations, just minutes from scenic Port Stanley. Throughout the year, Great Lakes Farms hosts a wide variety of activities including weddings, hall rentals, group dinners, farm tours and pick your own apples, strawberries, peaches, pears, and pumpkins.

The Scene

There’s fun available year round but the fall season is the peak of excitment! Start your visit with a weekend wagon ride around the farm. The Fun Zone adventure park includes an animal barn, a giant pirate ship, a sand box with diggers, a zip line, a tile slide, and a corn maze. Grab a push-wagon and head into the orchard to pick a bushel of fresh, crisp apples straight from the tree. Feel free to add a couple of homegrown pumpkins from the patch. After your harvest time, relax in the café and enjoy soup and a sandwich and delicious fresh-baked treats

Menu Highlights

You’ll find fresh strawberries early in the summer. Pick your own or purchase a flat. By late summer, juicy tree-ripened peaches, pears and some early apples are available. After Labour Day, Great Lakes Farms is in the peak of harvest with over 13 varieties of crunchy delicious apples. The apples as well as pumpkins are available picked or U-pick. Don’t forget to visit the apple barn to enjoy some delicious baked goods. Follow online for seasonal hours — picking dates vary, due to weather and species — and special events, such as Peach Fest and Pumpkin Fest.
