THE MILL STONE RESTAURANT & BAR: Globally Inspired. Locally Sourced.

Written by The Editors

Chef Jeremy Hayton and his mother, owner Jackie Hayton, have created an elegant and inviting space that reflects international influences — both in the kitchen and behind the bar — while embracing superior local producers.

The Scene

Located in a heritage building in the quiet end of Stratford’s main street, The Mill Stone offers a cozy and casual experience while invigorating all the senses. The stylish interior includes a busy open kitchen, local artwork, historic photos, and vintage woodwork, with a view out to the river in the back and to the street in front, and a quaint sidewalk patio is open seasonally.

Menu Highlights

Chef Jeremy Hayton has created an eclectic menu with predominantly locally produced and sourced ingredients, while drawing inspiration in the kitchen and behind the bar from cuisines from all over the world. A particular penchant for Mexican cuisine (tacos, salsas, ceviche, margaritas) is clear, but the menus change with the seasons and with what is fresh.
Tacos are served on soft housemade corn tortillas with fillings such as Lamb Birria or Confit Duck, or other favourites such as:

Crispy Cauliflower Tapas

Pork Pastor — chilli-marinated & chargrilled pork shoulder with salsa verde, pickled jalapeño, grilled pineapple salsa & cilantro;
Curried Sweet Potato — crispy sweet potato with red thai curry, green onion, cilantro & pickled Thai chilli.
Tapas/Sharing Plates and a pre-theatre prix fixe option are available during the Stratford Festival months. Special food events, like a Late Night Lao pop-up snack bar featuring Laotian delicacies and cocktails, and live music nights are also offered. Recommendations include:
Crispy Cauliflower Tapas — a fried cauliflower wedge with mole negro, salsa roja, braised onion and cabbage, green onion, & pickled garlic scape;
Confit Local Duck Leg, with poached duck egg, braised cabbage, brussels sprouts, duck bacon, ancho cherry chutney & microgreens.
